Confusion about Gender Dysphoria
Something New Under the Sun
The Bible says there is “nothing new under the sun.” (Eccl 1:9) The Catholic Wise Guy (CWG), a Bible believer, wonders whether there is something new under the 21st century America sun. By “new” we mean, of course, something new about the human condition, the behavior of people. Ecclesiastes was not discussing technology.
The Wise Guy seeks the help of his readers in determining whether America with its Yankee ingenuity has developed “something new” – that is, a new method of abusing children – in this case youth afflicted with gender dysphoria.
The Wise Guy offers some background on the long and storied history of the abuse of children to frame this trans abuse. Some accuse God of getting the ball rolling by mandating the circumcision of Jewish boys, which practice was continued by Christians. Six hundred years later Muslims jumped in and, as a measure of equality, instituted it for girls as well as for boys. Questions remain as to the precise nature of this procedure for girls.
Savage beatings and other forms of punishment for the young have always been with us. Most societies considered killing the young beyond the pale, a form of child abuse. And it tended to undermine the future of the society. But a few cultures have engaged in child sacrifice – the ultimate form of child abuse. The sacrifice involves paying homage to pagan deities with worshipers seeking to obtain a blessing from their god(s) in exchange for the child. The Bible describes the child sacrifice to the god Molech practiced by the Ammonites and Canaanites, who were enemies of the Israelites.
The Aztecs provide a more recent example of child sacrifice during their rule in central Mexico during the 1300-1500s. The young were sacrificed to the Aztec God Tlaloc, the rain god. Child sacrifice is now frowned upon across the world.
Abortion is a sibling of child sacrifice – just different gods are receiving the sacrifice. Today the unborn child is offered up to the modern gods of Convenience and Pleasure. Abortion has been practiced throughout history and remains common in parts of the modern world. Per 1000 women ages 15-44, the abortion rates of a few key countries are as follows:
Russia – 54 (highest); China- 24; United States – 21; Mexico – 0.1 (lowest).
The sexual abuse of children – both prepubescent and adolescent – is a stark reality of history. Here’s how Wikipedia defines it, “Child sexual abuse, also called child molestation, is a form of child abuse in which an adult or older adolescent uses a child for sexual stimulation.[ …Child sexual abuse can occur in a variety of settings, including home, school, or work (in places where child labor is common)”
The Catholic Church has garnered many unwanted headlines on this topic in the last 30 years.
Child brides are a thriving subset of the sexual abuse of children. Numerous cultures throughout history have featured child brides, which is the marriage of young girls, sometimes to older men. Governments and religions (except for variants of Islam) have tried to stamp out this practice.
So now, after slogging through the stinky swampy history of the abuse of children, we arrive at our destination. We gaze dumbfounded at the an innovation in the abuse of the young. The Wise Guy defines this new form of child abuse, this trans abuse, as encouraging young people who suffer from gender dysphoria to pursue aggressive medical treatments, including sexually-altering drugs and surgery. By gender dysphoria we mean “a distressed state arising from conflict between a person’s gender identity and the sex the person has or was identified as having at birth.” Some social media “influencers” are even encouraging young people to feel gender dysphoria.
By “young” we mean anyone under the age of 25. Although brain development is subject to individual variation, most experts suggest that the brain is not fully developed until age 25. Wisdom cannot possibly include the mutilation of one’s God-given sexuality prior to the brain being fully developed.
One surprising feature of this new form of child abuse is that it is not illegal, nor done surreptitiously. Far from it. The American mental health establishment is encouraging gender dysphoria stricken young people to pursue life-wrecking actions to alleviate their psychological confusion and pain.
“But the new ‘affirmative-care’ standard of mental health professionals is a different matter entirely. It surpasses sympathy and leaps straight to demanding that mental health professionals adopt their patients’ beliefs of being in the ‘wrong body.’…The American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Psychological Association, and the Pediatric Endocrine Society have all endorsed ‘gender-affirming care’ as the standard for treating patients who self-identify as ‘transgender’ or self-diagnose as ‘gender dysphoric.’” Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters by Abigail Shrier (Locations 1730, 1736)
America has often been a force for good in the world but now by abusing trans youth it has become a force for evil. This does not win us any moral merit badges. How did a once Christian nation reach such a point? It began with our schools. A massive trans disinformation campaign has festered in our universities for years and has broken out beyond the university walls and infected other institutions and politicians, including our Catholic president. The mess becomes even messier when one considers that many of our elementary and high schools have also bought into this confusion about gender dysphoria. The long-term effect of this trans abuse fever could become worse than Covid. Controlling this virus has proved difficult since many of our institutions do not want to stamp it out. Trapped in a Great Delusion, they remain convinced they are doing good.
Paul McHugh, M.D., the University Distinguished Service Professor of Psychiatry at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, observes that, “Policy makers and the media are doing no favors to the public or the transgendered by treating their confusions as a right in need of defending rather than as a mental disorder that deserves understanding, treatment and prevention.” (Irreversible Damage, Location 2389).
The Wise Guy believes those running this racket are committing unwise actions. They are abusing trans youth.
And so, gentle readers, the Wise Guy asks – Is abusing trans youth “Something New Under the Sun.” Or is it just another example of the many types of child abuse that have plagued us through the centuries?
